Regular neck stretches are essential for maintaining spinal health, reducing tension, and improving your overall well-being.
Why Neck Stretches Matter
A consistent stretch routine can improve flexibility, reduce tension headaches, and enhance blood flow to the brain. Daily stretching helps prevent stiffness, supports better posture, and complements your chiropractic care.
Perform these stretches gently. Never force a stretch or bounce. If you experience pain, stop immediately and consult with us.
Daily Stretch Routine
Chin Tucks
Sit or stand with good posture. Gently draw your chin back, creating a 'double chin.' Hold for 5 seconds, then relax. Repeat 10 times.
Benefit: Strengthens deep neck flexors and improves posture
Neck Rotations
Slowly turn your head to the right, hold for 5 seconds. Return to center, then turn to the left and hold. Repeat 5 times each side.
Benefit: Improves range of motion and reduces stiffness
Side Bends
Tilt your right ear toward your right shoulder. Hold for 15-30 seconds. Repeat on the left side. Do 3 times each side.
Benefit: Stretches the scalene and upper trapezius muscles
Neck Extensions
Slowly look up toward the ceiling, keeping your shoulders relaxed. Hold for 5 seconds, then return to neutral. Repeat 5 times.
Benefit: Stretches the front of the neck and improves extension
Shoulder Shrugs
Raise both shoulders up toward your ears. Hold for 5 seconds, then release. Repeat 10 times.
Benefit: Releases tension in the upper trapezius
Levator Scapulae Stretch
Turn your head 45 degrees to the right. Look down toward your armpit. Gently pull your head down with your right hand. Hold 30 seconds. Repeat on left.
Benefit: Relieves tension headaches and neck stiffness
Tips for Success
- Perform stretches 2-3 times daily, especially if you work at a desk
- Hold each stretch for 15-30 seconds without bouncing
- Breathe deeply and relax into each stretch
- Set reminders on your phone to stretch regularly
- Combine stretching with regular chiropractic adjustments
