Conquer Infertility With Chiropractic Care

A review published in the scientific periodical the Journal of Clinical Chiropractic Pediatrics (JCCP) involved the case studies of 11 women ages 22 to 42 who were diagnosed with infertility.

The article states, “Infertility is defined as an inability to conceive after a year of unprotected intercourse or to carry a pregnancy to term.” The article included statistics from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) who reported that infertility affects six million women between the ages of 15 and 54. They also reported in 2004 that 127,977 artificial reproductive procedures had been performed. Additionally only 34% of the medical procedures attempted will result in a live birth with costs of up to $30,000 per menstrual cycle.

The 11 women in the study previously had one natural childbirth, two miscarriages, two failed in-vitro fertilizations, and three failed artificial inseminations. These women sought chiropractic care for a variety of other ailments in addition to infertility including ulcerative colitis, lower back pain, neck pain, menstrual cycle problems, diabetes, migraine headaches, and joint pain.

The average age of the women in the studies was 32. In 10 of the 11 cases the women were actively trying to become pregnant. Several had unsuccessfully tried more expensive and risky procedures. Fertility drugs can cause blood clots and kidney damage. Surgeries risk infection. Children born from in-vitro fertilization have an increased risk of cerebral palsy.

The results from these case studies showed that all 11 women became pregnant shortly after the start of chiropractic care. 9 of the 11 women did not receive any further medical care to become pregnant. The care provided in all of these cases was specific correction of vertebral subluxations using chiropractic analyses and techniques. Correction of vertebral subluxations improved bodily function which allowed the women of these studies to become pregnant.

Dr. Bula concluded, " One of the basic premises of chiropractic is that 'Interference with transmission in the body is always directly or indirectly due to verteral subluxations of the spinal column'. [2] The ten case studies examined in this paper suggest that regardless of the type of chiropractic technique used, when subluxations of the vertebral spine were adjusted there was a simultaneous improvement in function of the reproductive organs and related endocrine system."

Chiropractic Care Helps Infants Sleep Better

A pilot study published in the March 2008 issue of the Journal of Clinical Chiropractic Pediatrics (JCCP), reported that infants under chiropractic care sleep better. 117 infants were under chiropractic care for various reasons. Their parents were asked to complete questionnaires on their sleep behaviors on the 1st, 4th and 7th visits to the chiropractic clinic.

The researchers concluded the total hours of sleep did not change. The number of infants with difficulty falling asleep reduced from over 66% down to 22%. The infants also fell into deeper sleep. The infants reported as restless sleepers dropped from 36% to just over 7%. Deep sleepers increased from 39% to 63%.

The researchers noted that factors such as aging could be ruled out since the care took place over a 2 week period. The researchers concluded, "This pilot study into the issue of sleep problems in children showed significant improvements (by parental report) in time taken to fall asleep, number of consecutive hours of sleep and depth and quality of sleep for children during a short course of chiropractic care."
